FRESH. Magazine is a FREE alternative newspaper geared towards the 15-29 demographic in Sault Ste. Marie.

Currently, FRESH. is scheduled for four issues distributed on March 28, April 25, June 27 and September 26.

The unique thing about FRESH. is the way in which it is written. Sure, there is a staff, but the staff doesn’t write it, the community does. All stories printed in FRESH. stem directly from the young adults and community members with something to say that will interest this demographic.

We are always looking for submissions for our online content as well as in the print publication. On anything you have to say Sault Ste. Marie. We are also looking for great artwork to showcase in the print version as well as online.

INFORMATION ABOUT THIS PROJECT

In 2003, the Youth Opportunities Council commissioned a project to assess how well the needs of the youth population of Sault Ste. Marie were being served by the community. This was called the Youth Opportunities Assessment Project. The report clearly articulated that the youth of this community are in support of the creation of a Youth Publication. In the Executive Summary of the YOAP report, the first thing listed in the recommendations section
is “Develop a youth publication”. This recommendation was arrived at through analysis of answers provided to the YOAP survey, which was distributed to youth at a Youth Forum in 2004.

The Sault Youth Council has partnered with The Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities and Sault College Community Employment Programs on this project. The Sault Youth Council is a not-for-profit, youth-run, youth-bodied, volunteer organization that strives to be an independent voice, advocating for and benefiting youth, and assisting youth in their efforts to create a positive impact in the community.

This is a not-for-profit publication. All revenue from advertising will be used to sustain the FRESH. publication, distribution, website and marketing.
